About Gulf Coast Combustion
James didn’t start Gulf Coast Combustion because it seemed like a good business opportunity. He started it because he spent years inside the industry, doing the work, and saw how large vessel combustion jobs could be handled with more precision, more care, and more consistency than what was commonly offered. In 2014, he put everything on the line to prove it.
Gulf Coast Combustion is a family-owned company based in Spring, Texas. We specialize in on-site post weld heat treatment of pressure vessels via direct gas fire combustion — the method that demands the most from your heat treating crew, and the one we’ve built our entire operation around. Pressure vessels are where we live. Large, thick-walled, high-pressure, code-critical work for fabricators serving oil and gas, petrochemical, and chemical processing — that’s our lane, and we don’t leave it.

“More on-site pressure vessel PWHT jobs per year than any other mobile heat treating company in the United States — not because we’re the biggest, but because this is all we do.”

Years of Client Relationships
Why Texas Heat Treating Clients Stay With GCC
We’ve worked with some of our clients since GCC’s earliest days. That kind of relationship doesn’t happen by accident — it happens when every job is treated like your reputation depends on it. Because ours does.
Our crew has been with us. Experienced technicians who know large vessel combustion work inside and out, trained to James’s standard, and accountable to the same client relationships he’s built over his entire career.
We show up. On-site, on schedule, with the right equipment for your vessel and the right people to run it. We don’t subcontract your critical path to whoever is available.
When larger heat treating companies hit capacity on a big pressure vessel job, they call us. That’s not a coincidence — it’s the reputation James has spent over a decade earning.
This Is Who You’re Calling
Owner James Benefield walks through a live job at a Houston-area fabrication shop — 133,000 lbs, 3-inch wall thickness, brought to 1,150°F on-site using direct gas fire combustion. No furnace. No transport.
Published Work & Industry Recognition
Thermal Processing Magazine — The Industry’s Leading Heat Treating Publication
James Benefield’s technical article covers the execution standards behind every large vessel PWHT job — the written execution plan, thermocouple attachment methodology, heat cycle calculations from wall thickness, and the documentation package delivered before GCC trucks leave the yard. Not a company profile. A working breakdown of how the job gets done right, written by the person who runs them.
