About James
On-Site Pressure Vessel PWHT — The Guy Who Does It
James Benefield has been doing heat treating work in the field for over 18 years. He didn’t start Gulf Coast Combustion because it seemed like a good business opportunity — he started it because he spent years inside the industry, doing the work on large vessels, and saw how combustion jobs could be executed with more precision and consistency than what was commonly offered.
In 2014, he put everything on the line to prove it. Since then, Gulf Coast Combustion has performed more on-site pressure vessel PWHT per year than any other mobile heat treating company in the United States — not because they’re the biggest, but because it’s all they do.
James is involved in every job GCC takes on. When fabricators in oil & gas, petrochemical, and chemical processing call for a heat treating quote, James answers. When a large vessel job gets complicated, James is the one who figures it out. That hasn’t changed since day one.

Area of Expertise
On-Site Direct Gas Fire Combustion PWHT
Large Vessel PWHT
On-site post weld heat treatment for large pressure vessels via direct gas fire combustion — vessels from 16 feet to 120+ feet, up to 600,000 lbs, anywhere in the U.S.
ASME Section VIII Compliance
Every job executed to ASME Section VIII Division 1 / UCS-56 parameters — heat-up rate, soak temperature, hold time, cool-down rate, and full documentation on every job.
Technician Development
James wrote GCC’s 4-level technician certification program — a formal training and credentialing structure for heat treating technicians working on large pressure vessel combustion jobs.
Refractory Dry Out
Controlled cure cycles for refractory linings in pressure vessels, process heaters, convection boxes, and industrial equipment — using high-velocity gas combustion systems with full chart recorder documentation.

Built Around One Thing
Gulf Coast Combustion specializes exclusively in on-site direct gas fire PWHT for large pressure vessels — serving fabricators, refineries, and industrial facilities across the Gulf Coast since 2014. No furnace required. No transport risk. No size limits. Full ASME compliance on every job.
Based in Spring, TX. Mobilizes anywhere in the U.S. When larger heat treating companies hit capacity on a big pressure vessel job, they call GCC. That’s not a coincidence — it’s the reputation James has spent over a decade earning.
